We all love our pets; there is no denying it. But it cannot be denied either that they sometimes leave a certain scent behind on our carpets, wooden floors, couches, chairs or other parts of our home. Thankfully, there are solutions to this. Here are a couple:
- Before anything else, ensure that your pets are trained to do their business outside or in their litter box. This will help reduce the urine smells that occur from untrained cats and dogs.
- Engage in regular house cleaning. Do it on a weekly or bi-monthly basis. If you do not have the time, hire a cleaning service. This is critical to keeping your house clean and free from nasty smells that linger. Sweep up pet hair and dandruff.
- Use carpet and floor deodorizer. This is sprinkled all over the floor prior to vacuuming or sweeping. It attacks the odour that is emitted from pet hair and dandruff.
- If your dog has long ears, mix a solution of 50 percent white vinegar, 25 percent H20, and 25 percent rubbing alcohol. Pour a little bit of the solution into your dog’s ears and rub them. Use cotton swabs to absorb excess liquid. Sprinkle some drying powder in the ear. This will reduce odour significantly.
- If you have a few more days or weeks before your next appointment at the groomer’s, you can create your DIY solution by giving your pet a dry bath. Use baking soda and sprinkle it generously on your pet’s coat to remove any bad odours. It also helps to absorb oils which could likely be causing the odour. Comb the dog afterwards.
- Wash your pet’s bowls, bedding and toys regularly with warm water and soap. This will help remove any lingering smells and bacteria that could be causing the odour. Use heavy duty laundry detergent. Allow everything to dry thoroughly to prevent mildew odours.
These are only a few of the home remedies that you can employ to eliminate pet odours in your home. Be sure to bathe your pet on a regular basis as well.
