Now that the Christmas season is upon us, many are worried about the expenses that will inevitably arise. This is understandable seeing as most people are still reeling from the effects of the 2008 economic recession. But the truth is that you do not have to break the bank in order to beautify your Christmas tree. Creating homemade ornaments is also a great and fun way to spend time with the kids and with family. Without further ado, here are some ideas for homemade Christmas tree ornaments:
- Create glitter stars and attach ribbons to pine cones. The truth is that in order to make things beautiful, one does not need unlimited or large amounts of cash. You just need creativity, patience and a keen eye for detail. What you can do is take some cardboard or illustration board and draw stencils of stars on it. Cut these out and once you are done, cover the stars with glue. Then proceed to sprinkle gold or silver glitter on it afterwards. You can attach these to your Christmas tree by boring holes into them and working ribbon through the holes. You and your kids can also collect pine cones for a few hours outside. Hang these upside down on your Christmas tree with ribbons as well.
- Use food as a DIY décor. Remember the ginger bread recipe from our earlier blog post? If you happen to have any leftover or you have time to whip up a new batch, get creative and hang these up on your Christmas tree. Your guests are sure to be impressed and ask where you got the creative ideas. You can also combine half a cup of cornstarch, a cup of baking soda, and ¾ of water baked at 175 F to come up with a clay-like mixture where you can draw your own designs. You can include every family member. This is sure to be an activity that everyone in the family will enjoy. Don’t forget to take pictures so that you have the memory captured on film forever.
