If you are about to go on vacation, that’s great! There’s nothing like quite getting some rest and relaxation whether you are with beloved family members, fun friends, or even flying solo. But just before you hop on that plane or step into your car, there are several things that you need to sort out in order to ensure that your home will remain in perfect shape and order whilst you are away. With this in mind, here are a couple of things to remember before you leave your home for a vacation:
- Unplug everything in your home. This applies to kitchen appliances, cell phone chargers, desktop computers, lamps, and everything else that you usually leave plugged in on a normal day. This will not only help you lower the cost of your energy bill; you will also make a significant impact on reducing the greenhouse effect on the environment.
- Ask a friend or neighbor to housesit for you. It’s important to have somebody check in and see that everything is all right in your home. It’s also good for potential burglars to see that your home isn’t completely abandoned.
- Leave the light on and hold your mail. In an effort to keep burglars at bay, trick them into thinking that somebody is home by leaving a couple of lights on or installing an automatic lighting system. You should also give your post office a call and ask them to hold your mail. This applies to delivery of both personal mail and news publications. This is important because one thing potential burglars typically keep an eye out for is stacks of mail at a person’s front door. Don’t leave any signs.
- Hire a cleaning service right before you leave. If you want to ensure that every nook and cranny of your home is spic-and-span, a cleaning service is the best way to go. This is the perfect option if you are busy to devote a few hours of your time to cleaning or you just want to treat yourself.
